BLAST INDUCED GROUND VIBRATION AND SOUND MONITORING AT COAL MINES)
About company:
The coalfield limited is one of the major coals producing company of India. It is one of the subsidiaries of coal India Limited. It has its coal mines spread across the state. It has total seven open cast mines and three underground mines under its fold.
There are 45 sanctioned mining projects with a capacity of 190.83 Mty of coal. The total capital outlay of 45 projects is ₹6,076.78 crore.
Problem:
The company has the following concerns:
The safety manager and blasting officer raised the following concerns/problems:
- They want to check whether the blasting premises of their mines are under the regulations issued by DGMS (Director General of Mines safety) or not.
- The Vibration and sound level of the Blast is affecting the surroundings and human.
- The vibration & Sound levels are not within the limits of regulations of DGMS.
- They want to know the Ground vibration level at the blasting premises to determine the effectiveness of the blast.
Solution:
For solving the above problems the company bought Ground vibration measuring device which will analyze the vibrations and sounds of Blast level and also the vibrations from the environment to access and analyze the vibrations.
Experiment/measurements taken with the device Blast/Ground vibration Analyzer:
The device was taken to the field for doing live blast sessions and calculations.
- The device was set up at different levels and distances from the blast and measurements were taken
- The Ground/blast vibration Analyzer recorded the level of ground vibrations and also the sound of the blast with its multi-channel sensors (Seismic sensor for Ground vibrations) and (Mike for sound).
- The trigger level setting helped to set up a level of vibration and make an automatic recording when it blasts.
- The recording gives a unique name and serial no. to the recording files.
- After the blasting is completed, the device was taken to the office; the files recorded were taken to the PC from the SD card.
- The recording files were further analyzed using BLS (A PC software for Analysis of measured data)
- According to the requirement of the DGMS, the dominant value identification and FFT analysis and complete reports are generated with the help of PC software.
- The generated reports were printed and submitted to the General manager and Manager.
- The Managers were pleased with the results.
- All the problems/concerns solved with the help of a single device.
